Gold label for sustainable development
“Eco” certificates have long been established for individual buildings. The “DGNB”, the German Sustainable Building Council, developed the “New Construction of Mixed City Districts” certificate in order to guide entire districts on the path to sustainability.
It was presented to the first 13 European projects in 2011 – including Belval, which received the highly coveted preliminary certificate in gold. The DGNB acknowledges the overall concept of the new city district with this, its highest possible award: the quality of the traffic systems, the connection to existing districts, the reduction of pollutant emissions and energy costs, and the range of uses. All criteria that ensure stable values for residents, users and investors.
