Competition "Pavillon Source Bel-Val" for Esch 2022

Municipality of Sanem announces competition winners
On Friday, 27 November 2020, the municipality of Sanem announced the placements in the competition for the pavilion of the Bel-Val spring. As part of a paid consultation, a total of four architectural firms, accompanied by a scenographer, submitted a pavilion project for the staging of Bel-Val spring. The jury awarded the first prize to the collective BeBunch, Ney & Partners and scenographer Laura Mannelli.  The municipality of Sanem intends to draw attention to the existing Bel-Val spring and its history with the pavilion. The pavilion, which is to be opened as part of the Capital of Culture Esch 2022, will have a gastronomic offers as well as sanitary facilities. It will be a central part of the historical and artistic tour that is to be developed on the occasion of the Capital of Culture year, and will connect the four districts of the municipality of Sanem.  The Bel-Val mineral spring was discovered by lawyer Joseph Steichen-Mongenast in 1868, and at the beginning of the 20th century the mineral water was exported all over the world in tremendous style under his direction. It was known for its excellent quality and healing effects. Production was discontinued as the result of growing competition, several fires and the Great Depression of 1935. The spring still exists today under the park "Around Belval", at the crossroads between the Boulevard de la Recherche and the Boulevard du Jazz.  Further information: www.sanem.lu
